Carol Lee Kamekona’s Statement on Nomination for Appointment to Kahului Residency Area Council Seat

Veteran community leader, nominated by Councilmember Shane Sinenci, calls for steady, transparent leadership that serves Mauiʻs people with aloha.

“As Maui grieves at the loss of a faithful servant of KE AKUA and a strong Community advocate, ʻAnake Tasha Kama will be remembered with much aloha. The vacancy in the Kahului Residency Seat now becomes a priority for the remaining Maui County Councilmembers to fill.  I believe the process the Council has chosen is fair and equitable for any Community member who feels they are qualified for such appointment.

As evident in my military career, I have dedicated my life to service for the betterment of all people, which is why I have submitted my application to fill the current vacancy for the Kahului seat.

I'm ready to work with anyone to accomplish local housing for local workers, fair pay for local jobs, and a government that earns trust through transparency and accountability.”
